Originally part of the Massachusetts Mohair Plush Co. Mills, Lowell Makes is located at 130 Western Avenue between Western Ave. Studios & Lofts. We have over 26,000 square feet of space for our shops, meeting spaces, classrooms and businesses.

Shops & Studios
The shops within Lowell Makes are constantly evolving as new and different members join the community and collective needs and interests shift.
See below for a list of our current shops and workspaces.
3D Printing
FDM printing, resin printing, enclosed printers and more! The 3D print shop has a little of everything and a lot to work with.
Bike Shop
The bike shop is filled with all sorts of useful bike maintenance equipment. Whether you’re tuning up an old bike, or building one from scratch, we’ll have what you need to tackle the project.
Brew Shop
Fermentation of all sorts! Beer and kombucha and everything you need to brew your own!
Caffeine Shop
Need a pick me up between projects? Need a boost to work through the night? Well welcome to the Caffeine Shop! We’ve got a top of the line machine ready to brew up a nice espresso, just for you!
Ceramics Studio
We’ve got a ton of great tools for all your ceramics projects! There are several potter’s wheels, a 24” slab roller, an electric kiln firing to cone 6, plus a large variety of tools and materials for throwing, hand building, and sculpture
Chop Shop
From a Dremel mount station and bandsaws to palm/belt sanders and an oscillating saw, the Chop Shop gives you a place to cut, sand and shape foam and plastic into the perfect Cosplay outfit.
Computer Lab
The computer lab is equipped with five workstations and a dedicated server rack, all available for members to use. Whether you’re diving into 3D modeling, CAD design, teaching or taking hands-on classes, or even just unwinding with some gaming, this shared digital workspace is built to handle it all.
Cosplay Shop
The Cosplay Shop at LM is your one-stop destination for costumes and props, offering large work tables with self-healing mats and a wide array of tools. From power tools like heat guns and rotary sanders to specialized equipment like leather die-cutters and foot press rivets, everything you need is at your fingertips.
Electronics Shop
Our Electronics Shop is fully outfitted with the parts, tools, and test equipment you need to do any project. Projects created in this shop have ranged from LED boards and fruit pianos to guitar amps and custom PCB designs.
Fiber and Mixed media (FAMM)
Fiber and Mixed Media is a diverse shop offering tools for sewing, polymer clay, vinyl cutting, sticker making, mixed media, and a variety of other artist endeavors.
Jewelry and Glass Studio
The Jewelry and Glass Shop contains tools for jewelry making, fused glass and stained glass. Our shop includes 4 dedicated jewelry work stations where members can use shop tools to take a skill-building class or work on their projects.
Lasers
The Laser shop, or “Pew Pew” station, is where Lowell Makes keeps its laser cutting and etching equipment
Machine Shop
The metal shop at Lowell makes is a general fabrication shop not limited to only metal, includes fields such as machining, welding, and general metal fabrication.
Media Studio
The Media Production Studio is the perfect place for all your photography, video, recording, and printing needs. Get some practice with a digital camera. Film your process or photograph your projects. Print posters or other promotional materials. If you’ve got a business, the Media Studio is the resource you’ve been missing!
Rapid Prototyping
The Rapid Prototyping shop is Lowell Make’s CNC shop. It also contains our Epoxy station. With molds, a vacuum chamber, and scales for apportioning out mixtures, who knows what you will create!
Scanning Electron Microscope
Here, we work with scanning electron microscopes (SEM). These machines are used for analyzing detailed images of surface structure of any sample used! It can be used to view the microscopic surfaces of minerals and organisms.
Spray Room
The Spray Room, or Paint Booth, is a small room inside Lowell Makes that has a recirculating ventilation booth in it. The room is sealed and provides a safe and effective space for members to use aerosol paint products.
Wood Shop
The LM Woodshop is a 3,000 sq ft space featuring a lathe room, bench room, finishing room and a power equipment room.
Workspaces & Amenities
Classroom
The classroom at Lowell Makes is an undesignated workspace available for any of our members. It is supplied with tables, chairs, computers, and even a projector! It’s great for classes, workshops, board games, group get togethers and whatever our members need.
Lounge
The Lounge is the best place to get together with friends, meet with members, hang out, or get down to business in the Maker’s Lounge.
Maker’s Basket
Maker’s Basket is a courtesy store set up for Lowell Makes’ members and guests. You can buy snacks, drinks, frozen meals and even certain materials, such as clay, from the store. All the proceeds from Maker’s Basket go to help fund Lowell Makes projects.
