Instructor Compensation and Fees

To make teaching accessible and rewarding, we’ve structured our fees as follows:

Lowell Makes retains 20% of ticket sales for general overhead.
An additional 10-20% fee is applied for shop use, depending on space and tool requirements.
Members of Lowell Makes receive a 20% discount on class fees.

We’ll work with you to establish a fair pricing structure that compensates you appropriately for your time and expertise.

How to Get Started

Follow these steps to begin your journey as an instructor:

  1. Complete the Instructor Interest Form: Share your class idea and basic details.
  2. Collaborate with a Sponsor: We’ll pair you with a Shop Captain (e.g., Wood Shop, Metal Shop) or a member of our Education Committee to refine your class description, schedule, and pricing.
  3. Develop a Proposal: With our support, create a formal proposal including descriptions, materials fees, and visuals to help promote your class.
  4. Promotion and Logistics: We’ll handle the marketing through our member portal, external calendar, newsletter, and social media channels.
  5. Day-of Support: A Lowell Makes contact will assist you on the day of your class, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
  6. Receive Payment: After your class, we’ll invoice ticket sales at the start of the following month. Payments are typically processed within 4 weeks.
